Artist Statement
Sara Parker is an Austin-based photographer with a concentration in film and digital color photography. Her work contains portraiture in liminal spaces, capturing the unreal and the fantasy. She explores the idea of escapism through fantasy novels and films to create her range of bright images to cool, dark tones of her more liminal work. She focuses on handmade books to display her projects to follow the idea of storytelling and to reference her love for novels. With her visuals, Parker aims to create worlds that will inspire others to fall in love with the idea of fantasy and create their own work with that inspiration. She continues her work as she expands upon her fantasy themes with a series of portraits that will resemble the dark side of fantasy and focuses heavily on the unreal and liminal feelings.
